Oracle vs SAP

I was pretty surprised to read that Oracle has sued SAP (thanks to eDans, more resources in CNN Money, Business Week),because of “copyright infringement” (if so) in terms of business intelligence.

Oracle claims that SAP used a third party company to develop a support site for their products, particularly JDEdwards, Siebel and PeopleSoft product lines, just charging half of what Oracle does.

The third party company is supposedly TomorrowNow, founded by former PeopleSoft partners and purchased by SAP in January2005.

But last but not least, Larry Ellison´s company also claims that SAP might have developped a business line focused on providing support at half price to around 500 customers, obtanining a benefit that is directly taken from Oracle´s lion share, since most of profit is done with support and consulting.
If part of this is finally proved to be true in court, this is just not fair play at all. In a world where open source is slowly but surely gaining momentum, this fight between two propietary business intelligence information systems surprises me a lot.
