Today I was attending the LA-WEB conference here at Santiago de Chile. The conference is organized by Ricardo Baeza-Yates, head of Yahoo! Research in Barcelona and Daniel Schwabe (who incidentally was my Professor when I lived in Rio de Janeiro in 2004), among others.
In my opinion, the conference lacked a bit of passion, despite being located in the outstanding Santiago de Chile. There were few questions and the chair (at least, the one of my session) did not kick the audience curiosity.
However, I was very happy to introduce the Personal Social Dataset Ontology guided Architecture (PODA) and the work of my people at the UC3M. This work was already outline in this blog last May, when I was in a conference at the Carnegie Mellon. Thereafter, we wrote this paper, “Search in the Eye of the Beholder: Using the Personal Social Dataset and Ontology-guided Input to Improve Web Search Efficiency” and we got it accepted.
However the gist of the work was of our researchers.Actually, I felt very proud and excited about how far we can get with research, thanks to their talent.
